Active surveillance
If a NET is not causing any symptoms or problems and the disease is stable, your doctor may determine that active surveillance is the best option. Management should improve your quality of life, and sometimes that means not starting an unnecessary treatment that may have side effects and cause a disruption to your daily life.
Active surveillance, also known as “watchful waiting”, does not mean doing nothing. It means that your condition will be closely monitored. Your doctor will keep a close eye on you and the NET with regular tests and check-ups. It is natural to think that you should do something about the tumor, but remember that active surveillance is a valid option, and it may well be the best course of action for you right now. You and your doctor should discuss if this is a suitable option for you.
